Walk on air

The open living room became too large for its function due to the extension of the new kitchen. The basement has a low ceiling height and was dark, which made creating a void between the kitchen and living room a logical intervention. The desire to have a roof terrace on the extension led to a connection between the floor of the living room and the roof of the extension. To keep the spaces as open and light as possible, a complete glass floor has been used that is attached to the new Douglas beams. The Douglas beams at the same time provide a warm counterpart to the material palette.

Basement

The basement has been extented so that the existing kitchen has become larger and can now really function as a living-kitchen with an open relationship to the backyard. A floating veranda connected to the kitchen diner reinforces this relationship. On the floating veranda you can sit with a cup of coffee and let your legs dangle.

Kitchen

The staircase that runs along a continuous wall between the basement, the living room and the bedrooms provides a visual connecting element between the different spaces and also ensures that the long living room is broken up into a front and back.

The rest of the basement has been opened up, equipped with underfloor heating and now functions as a playground for the children and as a guest house.
